Prong's distinctive industrial metal sound has influenced other bands such as Korn and Nine Inch Nails. Tommy Victor, a former sound engineer at CBGB in New York, founded Prong in 1987 to express his sonic fury. With roots in the thrash metal and hardcore scenes, Prong carved out a niche - groovy, angry, massive; just perfect mosh music. The trio has ravaged stages and impressed audiences worldwide. Rude Awakening is Prong's fifth album. Prong continued to refine its piercing attack on Rude Awakening while simultaneously expanding its sonic vocabulary. Throughout the album, they continue to mix rhythms and industrial effects - there are samples scattered throughout the album - but the key to Rude Awakening's success is the precise and piercing effect of the band's jackhammer riffs.
