The adventure began in 1989 in the underground arteries of the French post-punk scene, just relayed by a few fanzines, dilapidated concert halls, and record shops that could be counted on one hand. A harsh, urban, tense music, where the echoes of hardcore and skateboard flips still resonate. Rock that creaks and scrapes, based on atonal guitars, scalpel-cut bass lines, offbeat rhythms, and acrimonious voices. Prohibition stands out with an extraordinary instrumentation: a freewheeling saxophone and the drone of a sitar join in the midst of the decibels. Their notoriety rises in Europe and the United States, where they embark on incessant tours, including dates with Blonde Redhead, Fugazi, David Grubbs, Condense, Chokebore… Prohibition ceased its activity in 1999, after the completion of a fifth album, the timeless "14 Ups & Downs."
