Gavin Bryars' music has long been regarded as both "accessible and brazenly personal" (The New York Times).
The English composer is inspired by disparate influences, from Wagner to Satie, through Cage and Silvestrov.
The result is a deep emotional resonance, though detached, and a patient and contemplative vision of time running through his instrumental, vocal, and staged compositions like guiding threads. Several recordings of Bryars' works have appeared in the ECM New Series collection during the 1980s and early 90s, including the classic albums "After the Requiem" and "Vita Nova".
Evolving slowly - but immediately engaging - performed by the mixed choir The Crossing accompanied by the PRISM saxophone quartet.
The album also offers Two Love Songs, luminous settings of poems by Petrarch sung by the women of The Crossing.
