RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC (1999)
Prince literally stormed into 1999, so it was no surprise that the penultimate year of the millennium was one of the biggest of his career. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic is a pop-leaning album featuring a surprising number of guest artists (such as Public Enemy's Chuck D, Eve, No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, and Sheryl Crow) and a series of radio-friendly tracks ("The Greatest Romance Ever Sold," "So Far," "So Pleased," "Hot Wit U," a cover of S. Crow's "Everyday Is a Winding Road").
Vinyl configuration: 2XLP – 150g purple vinyl in a single sleeve.
NOTE: Was available as a limited edition in 1999, but this new version includes the last 2 tracks removed from the '99 pressing.
RAVE IN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC (2001)
For a time, Prince seemed to have found the commercial freedom he so desired with the Internet. Almost a year before the release of The Rainbow Children, he created "The NPG Club," a website where paying subscribers could access his new productions. One of the first releases for club members was this remixed version of Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic. Highlights include the remix of "Hot Wit U" which incorporates elements from Prince's track for Vanity 6 "Nasty Girl," and the unreleased "Beautiful Strange." Additionally, 5 of the tracks are remixes with new musical elements (Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic, Undisputed (The Moneyapolis Mix), The Greatest Romance Ever Sold, Hot Wit U (Nasty Girl Remix), and Man'O'War (Remix)). 4 tracks are the originals with added elements at the end.
Vinyl: 2XLP – 150g purple vinyl - single sleeve. Available on vinyl for the first time.
ULTIMATE RAVE
Prince promoted Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic with the "Rave Un2 the Year 2000" pay-per-view concert. The show was scheduled for January 1, 1999, and featured guests such as Maceo Parker, Larry Graham, George Clinton, and Lenny Kravitz. The DVD was released in 2000 and includes 23 tracks plus 4 "bonus grooves." The setlist covers Prince's entire career with "Let's Go Crazy," "Purple Rain," "U Got The Look," "Raspberry Beret," "Gett Off," and "Kiss," as well as rarer tracks like "She's Always In My Hair," "The Christ" (originally "The Cross" from Sign O The Times), and "Nothing Compares 2 U," along with excerpts from Rave Un2 like "Baby Knows" and "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold."
Lenny Kravitz performs on "American Woman" and "Fly Away," The Time on "Jungle Love" and "The Bird." Cynthia Robinson and Gerry Martini join Larry Graham for a Sly And The Family Stone reunion on covers of "Everyday People" and "Higher."
