Hailing from the rainy environs of the Pacific Northwest, POSY debuts on Bastard Jazz with The Garden, a lush and organic soundscape that brings all the tranquility and sonic richness the title implies. The multi-instrumentalist orchestrated and performed most of the parts that make up the album, utilizing analog gear and a traditional recording studio to cultivate the ubiquitous warmth and rich sound that characterize The Garden. While drawing from the same well of musical depth as contemporary new jazz artists like Alfa Mist and Shabaka Hutchings, the classically trained POSY approaches things from a different angle, painting detailed miniature portraits that avoid the obvious spiritual jazz pitfalls of many of his contemporaries.
