Last year, the brilliant Portugal. The Man arrived in France with In the Mountain In The Cloud, their 6th studio album (the first to be released in France), unanimously praised by critics. Coming from Alaska, the band settled in Portland in 2005 and quickly attracted rave reviews from the American indie scene (spinner, billboard, wall street journal). Their universe is fascinating, unique, and masterfully combines electronic sounds, complex melodies with a psychedelic post-rock atmosphere. All of this is carried by the crystalline and striking voice of singer/songwriter John Gourley, who was named "Best vocalist of the year" by AP magazine in 2008. Today, the band returns with Evil Friends, a 7th album for which they collaborated with the multi-award-winning producer Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, The Black Keys, Beck). In this regard, he said: "we were very ambitious about what we could do. otherwise there was no point. So we decided: Let's try and make something really special." The result is a whirlwind of rock and melodic energy. The tracks on Evil Friends are all as different from each other as those on the previous albums by Portugal. The Man. We find ourselves in a constantly expanding mental landscape, in the feverish and wavering dreaminess of the band. It took the band a year to transform this recording alongside Danger Mouse into pure adrenaline, into lyrics that are both dark and bright, into sounds straddling danger and charm.
