Popol Vuh led by keyboardist Florian Fricke (1944-2001) is a group formed in 1969 and ranks among the most influential on the German progressive rock scene. Fricke was one of the first users of the Moog and other synthesizers. A pioneer of electronic music and the new age movement, classified under Krautrock, the band's fame grew through its collaboration with Werner Herzog. Popol Vuh composed the original soundtrack for several major films by the director.
