Description

An unlikely encounter between Junko Ueda, an eminent figure in Japanese medieval epic storytelling whose warm and deep voice summons telluric energies, and the organic madness of the monster PoiL, joyfully performing cosmic rock without a safety net. Poil Ueda shatters the boundaries of rock and global sound. The two universes interlock and combine in perfect osmosis, through the magic and respect of the "Ma" of filling potentialities. Here, musical time and storytelling. The album opens with Kujô-Shakujô, a Buddhist shômyô chant practiced by monks to ward off evil spirits. The second part of the album plunges us into the naval battle of Dan no Ura and the terrible decline of the imperial Heike clan against the Genji clans. Junko's stories thus freely surf on a hairy tumult with precise and impolite pulses. THE BAND: This is a musical encounter and creation between an expanded version of the band PoiL and the Japanese artist Junko Ueda, centered on popular epic tales drawn from The Tale of the Heike, the third part of a Japanese medieval classic. The composition is based on Junko Ueda's work and the tradition of sung narration accompanied by the Satsuma Biwa. A first part is written around a shômyô chant, 'kujo shakujo', a monodic ritual to ward off evil spirits; a second part recounts the naval battle of Dan-noura; and the third part is dedicated to Yoshitsune, a great samurai with a tragic destiny. A unique experience where Poil's overexcited and unbridled experimental rock blends with Junko Ueda's calm and sinuous voice, narrative power, and great charisma.
