Musik - 30th Anniversary Edition

Description

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, has remastered his groundbreaking second album, Musik, from the original tapes for a new limited edition on bio-vinyl. The record was first released in November 1994 on NovaMute and Plus 8, following Plastikman's debut album, Sheet One (1993). A true masterpiece of minimal techno, Musik quickly propelled Hawtin to new heights of success. The album's release followed the very first Plastikman live performance in a room covered in black vinyl inside a semi-abandoned Packard factory in Detroit, where Hawtin was at the heart of the emerging underground scene. Before the full album went on sale, the track "Plastique" paved the way for a more dancefloor-friendly album, though it has an unsettling and sinister edge. The album, described by The Guardian as "music like you've never heard it before" and by The Wire, which named it one of its albums of the year, as "... a masterpiece," defined a moment in techno that still resonates today. Now, 30 years later, the album has been remastered from the original tapes, reminding us why Plastikman is a name that still resonates and that the album's intensity—on and off the dancefloor—has lost none of its power over the years.
