La La Land represents a more cohesive and concise effort from the band, showcasing their unparalleled ability to evoke the spirit and full analog sonic power of the best recordings by Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix, while maintaining a fresh, innovative and contemporary sound, in the manner of their local peers Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade. While the songs are shorter and more impactful than the seven-minute marathon tracks of Parc Avenue, they are no less magnificent and intricate, and appear as natural as they want to be.
