With this recording of English Suites 1, 3 & 5, Piotr Anderszewski returns to J.S. Bach 10 years after his recording of 3 Partitas. "I always keep in mind that the harpsichord was the most popular keyboard instrument during Bach's lifetime. But I certainly do not want to try to imitate the sound of the harpsichord, otherwise I would play the harpsichord! Thus here is the paradox: to take into account the limitations of the harpsichord while exploiting all the expressive possibilities of the modern piano. What is wonderful is that the modern piano can suggest so many different instruments like the voice, the orchestra, percussion, and... the harpsichord.
