Since their self-titled debut in 2004, Pink Mountaintops has served as an outlet for Black Mountain frontman Stephen McBean's more obscure fascinations. On Peacock Pools, the group's fourth album, the British Columbia-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist shares 12 songs born from his magpie-like curiosity for a wide range of cultural artifacts including David Cronenberg, early Pink Floyd, John Carpenter films, a 1991 essay on bodybuilding worship, among others.
