{"product_id":"pierrick-menuau_togetherness-ensemble-vinyle_2022_lad","title":"TOGETHERNESS ENSEMBLE (vinyle)","description":"The Togetherness Ensemble proudly carries the torch of today's free and adventurous jazz. For his first album under his own name, Pierrick Menuau surrounded himself with renowned figures from the French jazz scene: Yoann Loustalot (trumpet), Julien Touery (piano), Sébastien Boisseau (double bass), Christophe Lavergne (drums). The eleven tracks on the album transcend eras and styles. The quintet's musicians draw on both their memory and imagination to extend their personal compositions, which always manage to be beyond trends and labels. By rekindling the embers of history, the quintet's spirit of freedom remains perfectly preserved, particularly through the constant balance of the five soloists and their ever-renewed inspiration throughout the pieces. The source is a Don Cherry album, 'Togetherness' (1965), a compilation of two concerts in France with Gato Barbieri, Karl Berger, Jean-François Jenny-Clark, and Aldo Romano. Almost a draft for the Afro-American cornetist's two upcoming masterpieces: 'Complete Communion' and 'Symphony For Improvisers'. Pierrick Menuau and his friends offer a personal vision of it, reinterpreting the fourth movement of the original suite, as if cleansed of the dross of approximation from that era, and presenting, composed by the quintet members, personal visions of this universe. In May 2018, at the Europajazz festival in Le Mans, I attended a concert of this program, which concluded a series of dates spanning over six months. Santi DeBriano and Barry Altschul were then part of the celebration, on bass and drums. I was captivated. Rediscovering this music, with two new members in the group, the joy of listening remains intact. It is lively, precise, audacious, and very free. Every moment breathes the spirit of collective play, and yet individualities, in both compositions and improvisations, are palpable. A beautiful way to fully realize the ideal expressed by the reference: Togetherness, unity, the state of being together, 'all for one, one for all,' the quintessence of the collective spirit. A magnificent demonstration of what remains one of jazz's ideals. --- Xavier Prévost ---.","brand":"Pierrick Menuau","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55310264664408,"sku":null,"price":20220225.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/3521381569773_54b2e455-9b32-438b-86ea-fdcf072ab295.jpg?v=1760318228","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/pierrick-menuau_togetherness-ensemble-vinyle_2022_lad","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
