French master of the art of conducting and creator of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, Pierre Monteux was undoubtedly one of the brightest conductors of the first half of the 20th century. Decca pays tribute to him by bringing together for the first time in a box set his recordings made between 1956 and 1964 for Decca, Philips, Westminster, and Decca/RCA, precious testimonies of the breadth of his repertoire and his scrupulous fidelity to the works he championed. HIGHLIGHTS The edition also offers a bonus disc with previously unreleased rehearsal recordings, as well as a disc of works by Ravel conducted by his son Claude Monteux, in its international CD debut.
