Specially dedicated to his icon Amy Winehouse, the unfortunate diva who passed away too soon, 'Méfistofélange' (a title he dedicates to her) brings together a total of 14 'songs.' While all the lyrics were written by Jean-Pierre, the music, apart from 2 of his own tracks, is the result of a fruitful collaboration between Paul Ives, JPK, and musicians including Hugo Indi and Rurik Sallé, composers, thanks to the discerning mind and ear of sound engineer and drummer François Causse. With a totally revisited track 'Gypsies' Rock'n'Roll Band' released in 1980 on 45rpm and brand new compositions, 'Méfistofélange' is the culmination of a writing journey which, recorded, composed, and accompanied by a blues-rock with obvious roots, a perfect setting for his gravelly voice, takes the listener into the unique, dreamlike, and rock'n'roll universe of its author. Rock'n'roll attitude, anti-yéyé approach, proto-punk posture, and unblinking curiosity summarize the beginning of Jean-Pierre Kalfon's musical life in the mid-sixties. Alongside his acting career, in theater, cinema, and television, which led him to cross paths with Pierre Clémenti, Marc'O, Bernadette Lafont, as well as many representatives of the New Wave – and not only: Bénazéraf, Astruc, Lelouch, Rivette, Godard, Boisset, Granier-Defferre, Truffaut, Chabrol, Verneuil, Walt Disney productions, Rochant, etc. Jean-Pierre has always dreamed of Jazz, Blues, Boogie, Rock'n'roll, and Rhythm'n'blues since his early youth. For his first discographic release in 1966, Jean-Pierre, supported by the arrangements of Michel Portal and Ivan Jullien but also by his pen, those of Marc'o, Victor Hugo, and Valérie Lagrange, through a 4-track CBS EP, (My Friend Mon Ami and especially the title 'Chanson hebdomadaire' which will be reissued for the pleasure of diggers in 2019 by the Toulouse label 'Pop Superette') predates the punk wave by about ten years, as observed by the - new - cover text which, apart from this assertion, reused that of the era. Afterwards, it's a story of sudden desires, discoveries, and encounters. Jean-Pierre Kalfon, with his dandy-like appearance and his instantly recognizable voice, crossed the underground musical France behind a drum kit, a guitar, or a microphone with multiple groups: founder of Crouille-Marteau, guitarist with Jacques Higelin, creator of Sugar Baby Bitch, Monsieur Claude, or Kalfon Roc Chaud with whom he participated in the first French punk festival in Mont-de-Marsan in 1977. At 83 years old, Jean-Pierre Kalfon has kept a rebellious and independent spirit.
