« Cathedral » is a touching, captivating, and intergenerational dialogue between the piano of Philipp Schiepek (26 years old) and the guitar of Walter Lang (59 years old), between classical and jazz, between form and freedom. We listen to a musical conversation that, through its depth and intimacy, speaks directly to the time we live in. This dialogue can sometimes be sustained and calm, with hints of Eastern meditation - as in « Sumniran » or in « Kamo », evoking a centuries-old river that flows gently through the Japanese city of Kyoto. Another track, « Pilgrimage », sounds like a hymn with the feel of a long walk. The tone can also be melancholic, as in « The World Is Upside Down », which evokes the current pandemic. But there is also comfort and consolation, as with the last piece « The Encourager » ... Finally, « Cathedral » is an album worthy of its name and resonates as an act of devotion, with sounds that rise in the sacred space.
