Description

Richard Strauss described his two-part opera "Intermezzo" as a "bourgeois comedy with symphonic interludes in 2 acts". The soprano Christine, with her shimmering cantilenas, embodies Pauline, Strauss's wife, while the famous court conductor Robert Storch plays Richard Strauss's alter ego in a realistic drama that was avant-garde for its time. This acclaimed production by director Tobias Kratzer transposes "Intermezzo" to our era and highlights Strauss's subtle interplay between reality and fiction through stunning visual effects and an exceptional, characterful cast. Sir Donald Runnicles conducts the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The excellent cast includes soprano Maria Bengtsson, tenor Thomas Blondelle, and baritone Philipp Jekal.
