Philip Glass, great American composer, was already over 30 years old when his first album, Music With Changing Parts, was released, which he self-produced in 1971 on his own label Chatham Square. Long before his opera Einstein on the Beach, this work already reveals his characteristic style: bright arpeggios, hypnotic repetitions, importance of rhythm, and a mix of electronic and acoustic instruments. The album is performed by the Philip Glass Ensemble (Jon Gibson, Dickie Landry, Art Murphy, Steve Chambers, Robert Prado, as well as Barbara Benary on electric violin). Glass finances the project with an interest-free loan from the Hebrew Free Loan Society, thus helping to launch a new musical aesthetic: minimalism. The Chatham Square label will later release other artists close to the composer. Born in Baltimore in 1937, Glass establishes himself in New York as a major independent figure, comparable to creators like Richard Serra or Jim Jarmusch. This vinyl reissue restores the original format of the album for the first time.
