It is often said that cats have nine lives; for Peter Cat Recording Co, it is more about nine dimensions in which they evolve. Founded in New Delhi in 2010 by crooner Suryakant Sawhney, Peter Cat Recording Co. is a band that has gradually transformed over time and through its members, musically evolving between each album released: from gypsy jazz to psychedelic cabaret music, waltzes for dances to epic cosmic disco, from a supernova bossa to non-easy listening.
You can try to label the music of Peter Cat Recording Co. as much as you want, but just when you think you have them figured out, their music evolves and transforms, the description you have in your hands ends up liquefying and slipping through your fingers like fine sand. Who knows if Peter Cat Recording Co. really has nine lives or not. But "Portrait of a Time" gives a glimpse of one of its lives there, and hints at a possible future incarnation of the band through a brand new album, mostly recorded in Paris. But never forget that, like a cat, you will never really be able to put them in a box.
