The album was produced by Julian Mendelsohn, Stephen Hague, Shep Pettibone, Andy Richards and Pet Shop Boys. During this period, Pet Shop Boys reached commercial heights and were critically acclaimed thanks to three singles from this album, "It's a Sin", "Always on My Mind" and "Heart", not to mention "What Have I Done to Deserve This", a track recorded with Dusty Springfield, which reached number two.
