With his charisma, style, and soulful voice, Paul Young immediately established himself as a prominent figure on the 80s new pop scene. Formerly the frontman of the band Q-Tips, he unsurprisingly became a teen idol upon the release of his first album in 1983.
The first in a series of three consecutive chart-topping albums, *No Parlez* features no fewer than eight cover songs. It was his version of Marvin Gaye's "Wherever I Lay My Hat," the album's third single, that propelled him to stardom. The track remained number one for three weeks between July and August of that year. This was followed by the hits "Come Back and Stay" and "Love of the Common People," both of which charted in the top 5. He also achieved international recognition, with certified platinum sales in several countries.
