Patrick is back in record stores with a DIY Blues Album. An eclectic album that reflects the influences that have punctuated his career as a Punk-Rocker - a sublime, decadent Gatefold cover, just the way he likes them, with touches of varnish on certain markers of his world: dark glasses, books, steel chains...After founding one of the first French punk bands, Asphalt Jungle, Patrick Eudeline signed with CBS as a solo artist, then, through a notoriously eventful life, turned to writing: Best, when he was barely a teenager, and in the 80s Libération, Nova... among others. He released his first solo LP in the 90s, then devoted himself to novels before releasing 'Mauvaise étoile' in the 2000s. He currently collaborates with various newspapers, including Rock and Folk.'Comme avant' is his big comeback. He takes on everything: instruments, mixing, production... right up to mastering. French chanson, orchestrated, cabaret, decadent, bluesy in the darkest sense of the term. He's compared to Arno, Bashung or Gainsbourg (people often lack imagination...). And this devotee of the great Serge finds the comparison overwhelming and almost disrespectful. He loves Kurt Weil, Ben E King, Mingus, Petula Clark, 50s Bécaud and so many others. His 'Comme avant' is divided between originals and rare covers ('Je n'attends plus personne', once magnified by Françoise Hardy for example). A record that mirrors his forthcoming book from Séguier, due out at the end of the year, and which covers many common themes.The death of a civilization in a world where love is now feared. He adapts, in his own way, with new lyrics, 'Boom Boom' as well as 'Nobody Knows When You're Down And Out', which Nino Ferrer had made his 'millionaire'. This 'Comme avant' with its Roxy Music-style cover will surprise many. 'But it's not rock!' some will say. It's certainly a far cry from AC/DC or Motorhead. 'What is this thing between Adamo and John Lee Hooker? Never heard anything like it!' Yarol Poupaud, Johnny's guitarist, once exclaimed on air. We couldn't agree more.
