Description

This album celebrates a musical partnership that has lasted for 20 years and, above all, a real friendship: "We are like two sisters, on stage and in life," Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Sol Gabetta like to say... Alongside their dazzling careers as soloists, they have never stopped coming together for concerts as a trio or in double concertos... But it is for a rather rare formation, the violin-cello duo, that they have built this recording. With the desire to choose pieces that seemed interesting to them, both for stylistic aspects and for the use of the instruments... On the program, the Duo written by Zoltán Kodály in 1914, which was only premiered in 1924, two years after Maurice Ravel's Sonata for violin and cello, then a few incursions into the Baroque era (Leclair, Scarlatti, Bach) and of course works by 21st-century composers with whom the two musicians are very close: Jörg Widmann, Francisco Coll and Julien-François Zbinden are part of this introspective journey into the generous world of two total artists.
