The virtuoso musician Pat Metheny surprises us once again with a new album titled Dream Box. These tracks, drawn from recordings made during his previous tour, reveal another aspect of the artist as he shares his musical vision of life. Pat Metheny said about this album: "I hope people find their own dreams in this music."Guitarist and composer Pat Metheny was born in 1954 in Kansas City into a family of musicians.Metheny started playing trumpet at age 8 and switched to guitar at age 12. By age 15, he was regularly collaborating with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, gaining invaluable stage experience at an unusually young age. He has won 20 Grammy Awards in 12 different categories, including Best Rock Instrumental, Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, Best Instrumental Composition. The Pat Metheny Group won seven consecutive Grammys for seven consecutive albums. Metheny has spent most of his life touring, averaging 120 to 240 concerts per year since 1974.Pat Metheny explains: "'Dream Box' is an unusual recording for me. It's a compilation of tracks I recorded over several years. While on tour last year (2022), I discovered a forgotten folder on my hard drive. I often make quick recordings of things: a new piece, a new (or old) guitar, a standard tune, or just to try something out. I have a folder where I keep these recordings, frankly, never to hear them again. The only time I listen to my own material is when I'm traveling. I often say I live on the output and have little or no time for the input. That changes on tour, where there suddenly seem to be more free hours in the day, whether on a bus or in a distant hotel room. Sometimes those moments are an opportunity to dig through folders to see if there's anything interesting to find. Last year was a particularly fun year for me to travel, with about 160 performances worldwide. Throughout all that travel, I kept coming back to that discovered folder. During those listening sessions, I was surprised that this program turned out to be a coherent whole. I realized I had accidentally found myself at a destination I hadn't planned, and I'm happy to share with you what I found there. These nine tracks were my favorites and came together to create something unique for me. I never played anything more than once. They are truly moments in time, and in fact I have almost no memory of recording most of them. They just showed up like that. The music exists in an elusive state for me, and it is often at its best when discovered independently of any particular intention. I hope people find their own dreams in this music."
