The virtuoso musician Pat Metheny surprises us once again with a new album titled Dream Box. These tracks, taken from recordings made during the previous tour, reveal another aspect of the artist who shares his musical vision of life with us. Pat Metheny said about this album: "I hope people find their own dreams in this music."Guitarist and composer Pat Metheny was born in 1954 in Kansas City into a family of musicians. Metheny began playing trumpet at age 8 and switched to guitar at age 12. By age 15, he was regularly collaborating with Kansas City's best jazz musicians, gaining invaluable experience on the bandstand at an unusually young age. He has won 20 Grammy Awards in 12 different categories, including Best Rock Instrumental, Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, Best Instrumental Composition. The Pat Metheny Group won seven consecutive Grammys for seven consecutive albums. Metheny has spent most of his life touring, averaging 120 to 240 shows a year since 1974.Pat Metheny explains: " 'Dream Box' is an unusual record for me. It's a compilation of tracks that I've recorded over several years. While on tour last year (2022), I discovered a forgotten folder on my hard drive. I often make quick recordings of things: a new piece, a new (or old) guitar, a standard tune, or just to try something out. I have a folder where I keep these recordings, frankly, never to hear them again. The only time I listen to my own material is when traveling. I often say that I live from output and have little to no time for input. This changes on tour, where there suddenly seem to be more free hours in the day, whether on a bus or in a distant hotel room. Sometimes, these moments are an opportunity to delve into folders to see if there's anything interesting to be found. Last year was a particularly fun year for me traveling, with about 160 performances worldwide. During all these travels, I kept coming back to this discovered folder. During these listening sessions, I was surprised that this program turned out to be a coherent whole. I realized that I had accidentally found myself at a destination I hadn't intended, and I am happy to share what I found there with you. These nine tracks were my favorites and came together to create something unique for me. I never played anything more than once. These are truly moments in time, and in fact, I have almost no memory of recording most of them. They just presented themselves that way. Music exists in an elusive state for me, and it is often at its best when discovered independently of any particular intention. I hope people find their own dreams in this music."
