Parabellum is a punk-rock band formed in 1984 with Géant-Vert (manager and lyricist), Schultz (guitar and vocals), Roland (bass), Sven (guitar) and Cambouis (drums, later replaced by Patrick Lemarchand).The band's name is taken from the Latin quote Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum, which Géant Vert had stenciled on one of his t-shirts. "It is the motto of countries possessing nuclear deterrents, which echoed that of the Romans, who believed that the further the empire's borders were pushed, the safer the city was. And it became: 'the more you sit on megatons of thermonuclear bombs, the safer you are,' because no one will dare light the fuse. I found it so cynical that I started by making a t-shirt, and it became a band."A major group in alternative rock, Parabellum experienced many moments of glory and hardship until its dissolution, upon returning from a Canadian tour, in 1991. Their first album, provocatively titled "Gratuit : 2 morceaux en moins !" was released in 1986 and hides, beneath a superb illustration by Michel Pirus, 8 deadly effective little bullets: Cayenne, Ilôt Amsterdam, La Bombe et moi, Berceau-Néo-Caveau, Stalag 27, Doc Bollock.It was recorded in Montpellier and produced by Christophe Sourice (Les Thugs). It was produced by the no less legendary label "Gougnaf Mouvement" (Les Rats, Les Thugs, Haine Brigade, Les Shériff…) and was ranked 83rd best French rock album by Rolling Stone magazine in 2010.
