Slacker

Description

Born in the boiling heart of Rio de Janeiro, Oruã embodies a vibrant crossroads between lowlife jazz, proletarian krautrock, and tropical psychedelia. Driven by guitarist and producer Lê Almeida, the band brings together João Casaes (synths), Bigu Medine (bass), and Ana Zumpano (drums), weaving a sonic patchwork where lo-fi, noise, afrobeat, and Brazilian influences merge into a collective trance. Noticed in 2019 by Doug Martsch (Built to Spill), Lê and João briefly join the cult 90s band and contribute to the production of When the Wind Forgets Your Name (Sub Pop, 2022). Back in Seattle after a long US/Europe tour, Oruã records their new album Slacker with Jim Roth, who adds guitar, synth, and percussion. Result: a hypnotic experience driven by deconstructed guitars, an relentless groove, and a visceral live energy. Oruã boldly exports Brazil's sonic avant-garde.
