Description

Reverie is the first collaborative album by Ori Kaplan and Lihu Melamed: a cinematic and deeply moving record, oscillating between modal jazz, film music, and psychedelic rock. Saxophonist and producer Ori Kaplan is best known as a founding member of Balkan Beat Box, for his work with Gogol Bordello and Shotnez, while Melamed brings extensive experience as a sound engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Together, they create music that evokes biblical films, western soundtracks, and explorations of 70s jazz, all while remaining spontaneous and profoundly human. The album blends cinematic influences from Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, and Pasolini with echoes of Mingus and Yusef Lateef. Kaplan's baritone saxophone and flutes guide the listener through modal structures, laid-back rhythms, folk traditions, klezmer modes, and Eastern sounds, while Melamed introduces psychedelic rock influences inspired by The Doors, Woodstock, and King Crimson.
