Description

Nicknamed "the god of Indian violin," Lakshminarayana Subramaniam has collaborated with many representatives of both Indian and Western traditions, from Ravi Shankar to Yehudi Menuhin. A fervent advocate of the idea that music is a universal language, he also represents fusion music and collaborates with musicians of all genres and nationalities, from Stéphane Grappelli to George Harrison and Stevie Wonder. Subramaniam first met Norwegian tubist Øystein Baadsvik in 2014 during his Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival. This meeting gave rise to this recording project, which also includes percussionist DSR Murthy, Ambi, Subramaniam's son on violin, and Lithuanian Toms Mikals on keyboards. They perform four works by Subramaniam together, including a Double Concerto for violin and tuba written for the occasion. In Eclipse, they are joined by Kavita Krishnamurti, a famous Indian playback singer who has recorded over 15,000 songs for countless Indian film soundtracks.
