From Kinshasa to Kebdrick, from Accra market cassettes to London pirate radio stations, from Malian blues to British jazz. This is not a new fusion, but a celebration of the musical family tree that has its roots in the diaspora. Even if it is not a sound that many people have heard, it is a sound that connects us all to our history, connecting the dots of popular music and the importance of preserving the lessons of our ancestors. The two creators of Onipa - Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist) and Kweku Sackey (K.O.G. & the Zongo Brigade) - accompanied by Finn Booth on drums and Dwayne Kilvington (aka Wonky Logic) on synthesizers, have built a highly original and life-affirming sonic universe.
