ON THORNS I LAY are Greek titans. Where their peers like Rotting Christ, Septicflesh, or Nightfall were more influenced by symphonic and black metal, this Athens-based band opted for a Gothic style in their early days in 1994. What could be more natural, knowing their name is taken from a Shakespearean sonnet?
Thirty years and ten albums later, ON THORNS I LAY release a self-titled album that elevates death-doom to epic heights, giving a Goth color to massive riffs and cavernous vocals reminiscent of the golden age of early 90s death-doom.
