The Quartet for the End of Time is a musical work in 8 movements written for violin, cello, clarinet, and piano. It was inspired by the Apocalypse of Saint John and composed in homage to the angel announcing the end of times. Olivier Messiaen himself explains: "Seven is the perfect number, the creation of six days sanctified by the divine Sabbath; the seven of this rest extends into eternity and becomes the eight of unyielding light, of unalterable peace." The Quartet is here performed by four leading international soloists, united by their admiration for this unique work.
