OKI is one of the few musicians to play the tonkori, a five-string Ainu harp, which is omnipresent on this record and represents the force that unifies the disparate sounds he introduces, such as reggae, dub, Irish folk, guttural singing, African drums, and Central Asian music.
On Tonkori in the Moonlight, we discover a superb collection of 11 songs mainly traditional, of meditative dub excursions and sacred folk voices. Born on the Japanese island of Hokkaido in 1957, OKI released his first album in 1996. Since then, he has recorded 11 studio albums solo and with his Dub Ainu Band, with whom he has toured internationally.
