Honest Work

Description

On her conceptual album *Honest Work*, Odd Beholder offers a sensitive and lucid dive into the daily lives of the middle and working classes. Across ten tracks, the Swiss artist portrays ordinary characters confronted with the realities of modern work: night shifts at the hospital, meetings with management, mental health doubts, and intimate gestures stolen in the midst of productive days. Far from being a simple social narrative, the album develops an atmosphere that could be described as "petty-bourgeois surrealism." The situations depicted, though mundane, take on a strange and almost unreal dimension, revealing the gap between individuals' inner lives and the structures that frame them. Throughout the tracks, *Honest Work* explores the feeling of alienation of a generation reduced to its functions—employee, patient, consumer—within often dehumanizing systems. The lyrics, both sober and poignant, reveal a diffuse fatigue, intimate worries, and a need for meaning.
