Description

Produced and recorded in various locations (New York, Dakar, Nouakchott), the album Tzenni is a contemporary expression of Mauritanian griot music, an art form that has evolved and gained momentum over the past centuries. This is evident in the music of Noura Mint Seymali, an artist deeply rooted in her history. Noura Mint Seymali comes from a long line of musicians. Her father, Seymali Ould Ahmed Vall, contributed to opening Mauritanian music to the world by developing the first notation system for Moorish music, adapting the national anthem's music, and composing pieces popularized by his wife (and Noura's stepmother) Dimi Mint Abba. After singing as a backing vocalist for Dimi, Noura Mint Seymali now carries on the legacy of the Seymalis, Dimi, her grandmother Mounina, and countless others.
