Tracks like \"Cannibal World\" and \"Toothless Coal\" are cataclysmic outpourings of industrial shoegaze sounds, reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine, but more extreme. In contrast, the ornate melancholy of \"Purple Strings\" features a magnificent string arrangement with harpist Mary Lattimore, who has collaborated with Nothing twice before. This baroque delicacy permeates other tracks on the album, notably \"The Rain Don't Care,\" a melodic ballad that evokes the antiquated elegance of Mojave 3, and \"Nerve Scales,\" a catchy pop track reminiscent of Radiohead in its marriage of otherworldly atmosphere and realistic precision.
