Peter Heise (1830-1879) is the undisputed master of melody in Denmark, yet his string quartets remained long forgotten. This 3-CD box set brings together the complete works of the Nordic String Quartet, including the world premiere recordings of quartets No. 1 to 6. With the first volume already released, these works reveal the full splendor of Heise's musical imagination, performed with a lyrical and generous sensitivity that reflects the composer's very special poetic touch. Peter Heise (1830-1879) was a renowned vocal composer, best known for his many romantic-style melodies and the opera "Drot og Marsk," the national opera of Denmark. Although he was one of Denmark's most popular and beloved composers, his six string quartets were unfortunately neglected after his death and fell into obscurity. In 2023, the Nordic String Quartet released the first volume of its series of world premiere recordings of Heise's string quartets: a collection of elegant works, imbued with remarkable poetry and lyricism. This recording constitutes a major rediscovery and an essential piece of the puzzle for understanding one of the most refined Danish composers. The first volume was a great success.
