No Age are back! The guitar/drums duo who have a penchant for homemade samples and generally don't care about things like space and pause return with a new album called 'Goons Be Gone', their second for Drag City. This record is beautifully dense, a blurry and delirious expanse that is both comforting and disorienting. It's hard to understand how two people can make so much noise while seeming so gentle and mysterious - it's easier to imagine guitarist Randy Randall and drummer/vocalist Dean Spunt bringing these songs to life in a colossal California quarry rather than in a small art gallery a few blocks from the LA slums. 'Goons Be Gone' is so cacophonous, with such a rich and elaborate sound that it's almost impossible to analyze the samples, effects and different layers of guitar; it's actually much more enjoyable to just close your eyes and enjoy it. "No Age will condense the best of noise-punk and shoegaze while incorporating incongruous samples and loops." --- LES OREILLES CURIEUSES ---. "'Goons Be Gone' sounds like an antithesis to the status quo and evolves towards peaceful and more complex soundscapes." --- BENZINE ---.
