Directed by pianist Nina Gat and drummer Ananda Brandão, Ninanda blends modern jazz and enchanting folk in their debut album through magical compositions, showcasing powerful rhythms and dreamy vocals over rich, complex harmonies. More than just a complementary pair, one can speak of a major quartet, as guitarist Maxime Boyer and double bassist Mathieu Scala fully belong in their universe, bringing their own share of inspirations. Without raising the tone, they assert a completely original version of jazz, through the lens of a classy folk. Nuance and a sense of collective play have thus led to this initial record, which follows their first prize at the Jazz à Vienne competition in the summer of 2024. That is, ten compositions, written almost equally between the two, between nostalgic hues and cinematic atmospheres.
