Silk & Soul

Description

Recorded in New York in 1967, Silk & Soul is Nina Simone's second album for RCA. It features "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free," which would become an anthem of the civil rights movement, "It Be's That Way Sometimes," written by her brother Sam Waymon, and "The Turning Point," a song that seems to evoke the budding friendship between two children, but actually questions the origins of racism. Nina Simone also takes on Dusty Springfield with her cover of "The Look Of Love," originally featured in the 1966 James Bond parody Casino Royale, and heavily inspired by Mozart in the fugue "Consummation." Silk & Soul is available in a limited edition of 2,500 individually numbered copies, pressed on translucent red vinyl.
