With Sonnets of Darkness and Love, Nils Landgren embodies the final work of composer Sven-David Sandstrom, inspired by Shakespeare, Lorca, Nietzsche, and Sandstrom himself. Commissioned by Danish choir conductor Mogens Dahl, this singular piece for choir, trombone, and voice came to life despite the composer's illness. Their first meeting in November 2018, filled with emotion, gave rise to an intense and touching collaboration. Completed shortly before Sandstrom's passing in June 2019, the work could only be performed after the pandemic, during two sold-out concerts with the Swedish Radio Choir, captured live.
