The new album by the American duo, produced by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore, Dinosaur Jr.), will be released by Domino! In 2009, two childhood friends, John Pelant and Micky Alfano, founded Night Moves in the heart of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Friends since high school, their relationship was solidified when Micky lent John his copy of George Harrison's album All Things Must Pass. A bright and melancholic classic whose echo resonates today on Pennied Days. Over time, Pelant and Alfano have enriched the spectrum of their influences, from heroes of the American folk tradition such as Leon Russell to The Band, to the R'n'B pioneers Curtis Mayfield and Sly Stone, to the pre-punk forerunners Suicide. (They also love Joe Walsh, like all free thinkers in America.) On Pennied Days, recorded after numerous concerts alongside Father John Misty, Lord Huron, Django Django, and Poliça, John Pelant has gathered his disillusionments and firm determination into a collection of beautifully melodic songs, whose sunny surface hides an inner darkness.
