Danny Lee Blackwell's Night Beats released their self-titled debut album in 2011, and 2024 sees a long-awaited vinyl reissue courtesy of UK label Fuzz Club. A modern garage-rock classic drenched in acid, in the Texan thirteenth-floor tradition, the band's R&B-influenced Western psychedelic sound on this 12-track album is a fight, a dawn shootout, a peel-out that leaves nothing but a cloud of red dust in its wake. Following the early releases of the 45 rpm "H-Bomb" and a split 10" with UFO Club (a collaborative project between Blackwell and Christian Bland of The Black Angels), the "Night Beats" LP was the band's first full offering and propelled them to the forefront of the burgeoning contemporary psyche scene, in a firework display of ramshackle rock'n'roll. Intense tours immediately followed and continued unabated in the years that followed, and Night Beats' definitive hit, "Puppet On A String", has since racked up millions of streams and become the soundtrack to an underground, fuzz-loving generation!
