Released after four years of silence, *No More Shall We Part* continued in 2001 the introspective path initiated by *The Boatman's Call*. Supported by sophisticated jazz harmonies, Nick Cave sings here with great vocal precision, continuing to explore the realms of love and religion ("And No More Shall We Part", "Hallelujah", "God Is In The House"). Giving way to detachment and melancholy, the urgency and lyricism that characterized the Australian now appear subtly ("Oh My Lord", "Fifteen Feet Of Pure White Snow"), although the album opens with the heartbreaking "As I Sat Sadly By Her Side". Monochromatic in tone, backed by the ghostly voices of the McGarrigle sisters on choir, *No More Shall We Part* is nonetheless a significant album, as it concludes with two of the band's most beautiful gems, "Gates To The Garden" and "Darker With The Day".
