The celebrated performer Nick Cave is once again collaborating with contemporary composer Nicholas Lens on an album entitled 'L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S'. The two companions wrote an opera during lockdown: 12 litanies that are intended as a kind of plea to the divine creator.
The work is intended as a "modest chamber opera of sleeping dreams". The idea for this project came to Lens during a bike ride through an unusually empty Brussels. He remembered the magical stillness of the Rinzai Zen temples he had seen in the Japanese countryside. Memories of these structures and the inner peace he experienced while visiting them were the initial inspiration for the minimalist, sometimes trance-like music of L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S. The album features Denzil Delaere, N.L. Noorenbergh, Claron McFadden, and Lens's daughter, Clara-Lane, on vocals.
