Born in Detroit in 1981, Negative Approach quickly established themselves as the leading figures of American Midwest hardcore. Led by John Brannon’s raw vocals, the band — completed by OP Moore on drums and brothers Rob and Graham McCulloch on guitar and bass — forged a brutal, uncompromising sound. This radical style was first captured on the 10 Song 7", released on Touch and Go Records in 1982. The following year, *Tied Down* marked an evolution towards a more metallic aesthetic, without sacrificing the band’s furious energy. After their split in 1985, Brannon continued his musical journey with the equally intense Laughing Hyenas. Over thirty years later, Negative Approach’s legacy remains intact. Their minimalist and furious approach continues to influence entire generations of hardcore bands. *Tied Down*, considered a classic of the genre, remains an essential reference for fans of all eras.
