Performers Natalie Lin Douglas and Patrick Yim, longtime advocates of new music with extensive experience in commissioning, premiering, and recording contemporary repertoire, the album covers a wide expressive range, from ritualistic and folkloric sound worlds to contrapuntal studies and contemporary virtuosity. The opening track is Gobi Canticle by Lei Liang, shaped by Mongolian musical traditions, microtonal inflections, and percussive string techniques. The result is a cohesive collection that highlights the individual voices of the composers while revealing shared concerns regarding timbre, gesture, and cultural memory.
