Pictures of America

Description

Avec Pictures of America, Natalie Dessay and the Paris Mozart Orchestra conducted by Claire Gibault invite you on a musical journey to the heart of deep America, inspired and rhythmically influenced by the famous paintings of Edward Hopper. The program features the most famous songs from American musicals and jazz: songs by Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Steven Sondheim, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, - The songs have been arranged and orchestrated for the project by jazz luminaries: Baptiste Trotignon, Patrice Caratini, Cyril Lehn, and Pierre Boussaguet. Two renowned jazz musicians - Pierre Boussaguet on double bass and François Laizeau on drums - join the Paris Mozart Orchestra to perform the famous American songs. Each song in the album is associated with a painting by Hopper. Available in a limited edition for pre-order in 2CD Deluxe Collector! The French composer Graciane Finzi has imagined eight orchestral paintings inspired by Hopper's paintings, on which texts by the French poet Claude Esteban are recited by Natalie Dessay. The famous Adagio by Samuel Barber completes the picture! Includes a 36-page booklet with reproductions of the paintings by Edward Hopper corresponding to the album titles. An original project - musical above all, but also at the crossroads of painting, literature, and theater.
