Belgian composer and drummer Daniel DENIS (UNIVERS ZÉRO, ART ZOYD) will be heard with a brand new group named NARTHEX, with the release of the album 'Superstitions' in September. NARTHEX is a duo composed of Daniel DENIS and Alain NEFFE (PSEUDO CODE, HUMAN FLESH, BENE GESSERIT). Some of their musician friends joined them: Nicolas de VILLEMARQUÉ (NUWAGE MUSIC), Anna HOMLER (THE SUGAR CONNECTION, CRO-MAGNON), Michel BERCKMANS (UNIVERS ZÉRO, JULVERNE, AKSAK MABOUL, VON ZAMLA,... ) and Daniel MALEMPRÉ (M.A.L., HUMAN FLESH). Although having had very different musical backgrounds, DENIS and NEFFE decided to work in the field of totally acoustic music recorded live (two microphones + portable DAT) in churches in their region, each of which gave the musicians particular inspiration and filled the sound of the instruments with natural reverberation/echo. Often dark, sometimes repetitive or experimental, sometimes rhythmic and exotic, always based on emotion induced by sound, NARTHEX's music is played on a host of acoustic instruments, such as church organ, harmonium, sitar, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, zither, valiha, sanzas, tarang, voice, percussion, metal clarinet, classical guitar, jew's harp, ongolok, violin, dulcimer, harmonica.
