After the failure of Giorgino, the film by her mentor and accomplice Laurent Boutonnat, in which she played the main female role, Mylène Farmer left France for California. It was in Los Angeles that she recorded her new studio album. An album with a new style that marked a turning point in her career. Less dark than its predecessors, it also differed in its musical tone: a rock willingly tinged with grunge, which ultimately suited the singer's universe very well. Wounds of the soul and of love, the fleetingness of time remained her favorite subjects, as evidenced by the hits "XXL" and "L'Instant X". Meanwhile, having lost none of her taste for erotic provocation, she signed an evocative "Eaunanisme", supported by an Abel Ferrara music video in which she appeared as a prostitute. Decidedly unconventional, Mylène Farmer proved once again, and for the better, with Anamorphosée, the fiery originality of her creative approach.
